Capturing Maine
What's in a name?
Growing up, my family had a place on the New Meadows River, where I learned my appreciation for all things Maine. When thinking of a name for my business, I knew I wanted to include my roots and pay tribute to new beginnings. I hope to create and build connections with New Meadow Designs.
About the artist
My name is Avery Hutchinson, and I have always been interested in all things art, fashion, and nature. Growing up in the military, we moved around often, but I always found my home base in Maine. My extended family is from here, and I grew up constantly playing dress-up in my mom's old formal dresses and running around outside in the woods. Fast-forward to adult life, and I still want to capture the beauty the state of Maine holds, and bring it to my artworks.
While at the School for Fine Arts at Simmons College and Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design, I learned to work in many different mediums. I found my art style and love for playing with materials to create depth on paper that capture movement and feelings. While working in the fashion industry in New York City, I worked mainly in the bridal world at Vera Wang, Reem Acra and The Knot.
After over ten years of working in the bridal industry, it was time to head back home to Maine. My husband and I missed our family, fresh air, and the ocean! After years of creating custom artwork for family and friends while working at my day job, it was time to make a move and do what I love full-time. With lots of encouragement and support from family and friends, New Meadow Designs was born!
I am always enthusiastic to collaborate and create new artworks with others. Sharing my art brings me so much joy, and it is even better when it brings happiness into someone else's life!
New!
Last summer, I started doing in-person events with a collection of small-batch slow art and fashion products. What does that mean, you may ask - well, it is all artwork done by hand, so it takes a lot of time and care, which is why stock is limited. The artwork was originally only available at the markets and pop-up events, but now it is available online in small limited drops! Make sure to check out my Instagram for the latest items selling online. If buying in-person is your thing, don’t worry, because I will also be attending many markets this year! So make sure to sign up for my Newsletter to stay in the loop so you can come by and say hello!
